This piece of ashbin is another outstanding depiction of Zapotecculture found in the Peten region (Northern Guatemala). The sculpture is a manifestation of the ‘God N’ whose supernatural figure is a fusion of a turtle with a human face. The ancient Mayans believed that the surface of the world is a great turtle floating on the primitive sea. The wrinkled grinning human face is that of God N, an elderly God, who was believed to be the sustainer of the world as well a central cosmic axis.
